Home at Last

Well, I made it home safely on Friday. A very uneventful flight which landed early. Hubby picked me up at MARTA and the rest of the night was pretty laid back. I was asleep on the couch at 9. Up again on Saturday at 6, which I guess is pretty normal if you're asleep that early the night before. After a quick workout, I did a little sanding on an old dresser we have. James spent about 3 hours on it and we still have work to do. Its an old dresser that was in my room growing up. It came to Lexington when I moved out of the sorority house and has been travelling with me since (it even made the trip to the Netherlands). The dresser has about 6 coats of white paint on it...its been a chore to sand. I think we're going to try to stain it. The wood isn't that great, but I think there is enough detail that it will look good. I'll have to post After pictures when it is done (not sure if I'll be able to post before pics because I am not sure I have one.
We went to game night last night and had a blast! We hung out until 1:30 AM and there was no overimbibing...it really was a great night and I was okay with not drinking much (i've been on a mission to reduce alcohol intake...I know you couldn't tell a couple posts ago). This morning we got up and went to church, then I came home and took a 3 hour nap...yes, you read that right, THREE HOURS. I guess the jet lag, late night and muscle relaxer (taken for my sore neck) all took a toll on me. Now, I am off to finish folding laundry and figure out what to eat for dinner. Had I not taken the nap, I would have made a Tuscan bean soup for hubby and gone to meet several DG alums for dinner. Ooops, looks like a change of plans...

Heartbroken

My sweet friend Jamie lost her father yesterday morning. I got the text early in the morning (wonderful jet lag - I was awake at 6AM on a Saturday) and just couldn't believe it. My heart is just broken for her. I cannot imagine what she is going through. I think the thing that got me the most is we are NOT old enough to be losing parents...My main group of friends is just turning 30 (yours truly will in October). I just don't think we should be losing parents, grandparents, maybe, but our parents?

I am at such a loss of words and don't know how to express to her how much my heart goes out to her. I am travelling to KY for the visitation and funeral later this week. I guess that's the best thing one can do at a time like this, just be there.

It just makes me so sad. Please pray for Jamie and her family.

Today

Today is a big day in history. And regardless of how you may have voted on November 4, today is important.

I am watching Barack speak as I type. I think he's doing a good job...

May we unite as Americans.

Crockpot Recipes

If you're looking for something cozy and relatively easy to cook...go to this site. 2008 was a year of crockpotting for this woman! She had a goal to use a crockpot each day of 2008. There are some great recipes on her site. (She is even publishing them in a book this fall) With all the cold temps, I thought I would share.

umm..

Trying to drink beer for beer (even if you are drinking a little beer to their big beer) with your co-workers - NOT GOOD....

Ya'll I work for a lubricant company (for you girls - get your heads out of the gutter - its a CAR lubricant company) and most of the guys are good ole boys....

Don't go head for head with them...they will win...

They thought it would be funny to see what happens when I have more than 1 drink (as that is all I have had around them)...

Don't worry, I did not do anything embarrassing and we ALL laughed quite a bit!

Hope you're having a good day...I'm signing off and going to bed...

Miss you all since I haven't even had time to catch up on blogs!!!

Hope you're staying warm...I hear its cold in most parts of the US....

Disgusting

That's the only way to describe the things I got out of our refrigerator last night. Since we've been travelling so much, we've missed 3 trash days. Well, our refrigerator paid the price...there were leftovers in there from the week after Thanksgiving....yuck...how can 2 people accumulate so much food...Oh yea, we are only two people and most recipes/meals make food for an ARMY...so we always have leftovers and to top that off, I am not a very good leftover eater....I'm picky about what I will or will not eat once its been in the refrigerator...Beef, that's one of them! Pasta is usually a good leftover, but a hamburger or steak, No Way I'm Going Near It!!

Anyway...New Year, Nice cleaned out refrigerator!

Happy Friday!

wiped out

Wow - that kickboxing class just kicked my butt....its been about 2 weeks since I have had that intense of a workout...shew, I guess I needed it! I am off to shower, I stink and hair is on Hair Cycle Day 2 (ala Clemsongirl) and since I got it cut, I can't pull off another day by using a ponytail!

Have a fun night!

Feeling better

Well, I am finally feeling better. I have done some sort of workout everyday since Tuesday....I am going to try kickboxing this afternoon. It'll be my first high intensity workout in almost two weeks...wish me luck.

As I get back in this workout kick, I am trying to figure out how I am going to stay motivated while in Europe. I have some resistance bands that I can use for strength and the abs instructor is going to give me a CD to upload to Ipod and a list of exercises so I can stay on top of that......Here's hoping that work isn't so stressful and busy that I don't have time...

Speaking of work, it hasn't been too busy this week. Just planning for next week's trip. But, so much is riding on the success of our visit, I am afraid I am missing something.....

Not looking forward to the long flight...might need to pick up some Airborne or something so I don't contract another virus and end up sick in Europe again....

Anyone watching the National Championship tonight? All the blogs I have read are pulling for Florida. I don't really have a vested interest in who wins, but think I will toon into the game for awhile...I definitely won't be staying up late to watch it though, hell, I couldn't even stay up to watch the whole Ohio State game and I probably should have since it was such a close game.

Some pictures for you....

My wonderful husband has posted pictures from our Dallas trip to his FB page....I would post the picture from NYE, but the waiter did not do a good job on the group shot and that's the only picture we have. I wore my sequin dress from Old Navy - was a steal at $40, though I think I should have gotten a smaller size.

Relaxing on New Years Day with the girls....
Once they warmed up to me, I became the human trampoline.....

Slow

I have been slow to start the New Year. James and I spent the New Year in TX with our friends and their 2 little girls. We had a great time. NYE we went out to dinner and ended up watching the ball drop (central time) at the restaurant's bar. I wasn't feeling great, so I was the DD...let me tell you, it was nice not to spend New Years Day hung over...though I did end up coming down with a cold. I am still fighting said cold and trying to get back in the swing of things here at home. We took the Christmas decorations down last night and need to spend tonight getting a couple rooms in order (James and Ricky now have a home office at our house and they've been moving furniture. I think their office is organized, but the two other rooms are still a mess.) I'm also on this kick that my house needs a full cleaning...new year, nice clean house, but I can't get motivated on that either. Hopefully I will get it done this weekend before I leave.

Workouts have been minimal...I had every intention of going hard this week...but with the cold I haven't been too motivated. I did go to abs class yesterday and walked a bit on the treadmill. Going again today and hoping to lift, though it probably won't be the best workout.

Trying to get everything caught up before leaving on Sunday. Going back to the Netherlands for work, 12 days this time....think hubby can manage that long without me?!?!?

I'll get some Christmas pictures posted shortly (they are all on hubby's computer) and unfortunately, I don't think there are any pictures from NYE.

We're Back

I am trying to get caught up after a late arrival last night. Hopefully I will get some posts completed today...Christmas, New Years, Christening, etc.....
