Books - What I've read lately

I've been reading a lot of books lately.  Pregnancy books and just for fun books.  I think I read 3 (fun books) in the Bahamas:

Drop Shot (A Myron Bolitar book) - Harlan Coben - Myron is an ex star athlete turned sports agent who finds himself with clients or friends in legal trouble.  The books are about his turn as an investigator, while still doing his day job.  I've read 4 of these I think.  They are pretty good.
The Simple Truth - David Baldacci - Love Baldacci books.  Nice Suspense, easy to read.  This one has an interesting twist or two.
The Blue Bistro - Elin Hilderbrand - Elin lives in Nantucket and all of her books are based here.  This is the second book I have read by Elin.  Good summer, beach reads.

Since the Bahamas, I've read a couple more:
A Vision in White (The Bride Quartet Book 1) - Nora Roberts - 4 friends grow up playing "wedding" and end up with a wedding planning business together.  Each serves their role.  This book focuses mainly on the photographer Mac.  I imagine each character will have her own book.  Good book, quick read.  Would definitely read the rest in the series.

And the latest book I have read is:

And I'm puzzled by the ending.  It left me full of questions.  I don't want to say too much about the book, but if you have read it, let's discuss please.  It was a good book, based on a love story through three stages in the characters' lives.  But the last paragraph of the book changes everything and I am not sure what to think......

What have you been reading lately?  I am ready for something new....(And I'll be getting caught up on the pregnancy books I have finished...I should probably review those on here at some point too!)

Thirteen Weeks

Originally written 6/15

I was reading through my other notes to you today and got teary, must be the hormones sinking in.  We had an ultrasound last Friday and got to see you.  You’re still in there, moving around.  Although you did measure a day or two behind where we thought we were.  I imagine that will go back and forth throughout.  You gave us a great picture...full face view with your arms up!  Your grandma called you “touchdown baby.”  It definitely does look like a victory pose.  Your dad is proud and excited.  He has the picture on his phone and just lights up when he gets to show it to someone!  Speaking of telling people, most people are now aware of your impending arrival.  I told work while there last week.  They seem genuinely excited for us.  I still have to figure out how much time off I will get to bond with you.
You are still sapping my energy.  Workouts are few and far between, though that could also be due to the travel I’ve done the last couple weeks.  I’m still playing tennis, but the heat is starting to get to me.  I am not sure how much longer I will be able to do that.  Evening tennis isn’t so bad, its the 11:00AM Saturday morning tennis that’s a problem.  We’re entering 2nd trimester territory and I’m hoping you give me some of my energy back!  We have a little more travel planned and I’m hoping by August we’ll be ready to think about your room and all the goodies we’ll need for you.   We get to see you again on Monday since you weren’t big enough for a measurement last time....We’re looking forward to it...hopefully you give us another good picture!  Love you already!

Crazy Sports Day

TCU 11, Florida State 7

I'm not all that into what is happening in the CWS.  However, I turned the channel last night to ESPN2 before turning the TV off (wanted to make sure I was set to watch tennis in the morning) and got sucked into this game.  It was top of the 8th and TCU was down 5-7.  I missed the first 3 runs of the come back, but did see Curry hit his grand slam...WOW...followed by another home run.  It was a great game!!

Donovan rescues U.S. World Cup dream with goal in 91st minute

I did not watch this game...but hear it was a nail biter.  Way to go USA to make the Group of 16!!

Record Breaking

As most of you know I am a tennis fan.  And I work from home.  So as a perk, I am able to have the TV on in the background (of course, not during conference calls).  Well today was a record breaker at Wimbledon....
John Isner (USA) and Nicolas Mahut (FRA) set the record for longest tennis match....not just at Wimbledon, but longest EVER.  Play began yesterday and ended at after 4 sets (they were tied 2-2) due to darkness.  They started today around 2 PM (England time) and were stopped again due to darkness.  The total match has lasted 10 hours so far.  The score is 59-59 in the fifth set.  Should be an interesting finish for the match tomorrow!  (Oh, and the Queen will be there - not sure if she is watching this one or not)

Baby mania

I promise not to make this all about baby mania.....I'm just trying to get caught up on the past 14 weeks!!

Thanks for hanging in there!

Today is 10 weeks little biscuit.  You’re the size of a kumquat this week and apparently my uterus is now the size of a grapefruit (I love the fruit and vegetable references).  The last few weeks have been busy.  You made your first trip to Eleuthera, even if it was in uetero.  We had a relaxing time (though your dad worked a lot) and I got to rest.  That’s about the only pregnancy symptom that I’ve had.....I am really tired.  I think you’re sapping all the energy out of me.  Some days I can go strong all day and others I need at least 1 nap.  But, I have been lucky with very little nausea and no throwing up.  I learned that it must run in the family because your grandma and great-grandma weren’t sick while pregnant either.
We had our first doctor appointment after the Bahamas trip.  We got to see you and your little heart beat on screen.  It was an exciting moment and your daddy definitely treasured it.  He’s so excited!  He scanned your picture and has shared it with family!  After seeing the heartbeat, we decided to start telling the rest of our family.  Your aunts and uncle are very excited as are your great-grandparents.  More friends are finding out and its really starting to sink in.  In a couple weeks we’ll be out of the first trimester and I think then I will get really excited and ready to start prepping for your arrival!  Can’t wait to meet you little one!

Six Weeks

Originally written April 29

Yesterday I crossed the six week mark.  Fortunately I have had very few pregnancy symptoms.  The only noticeable one (and only to those who know, I hope) is my boobs.  Holy Boobs....They do not hurt, however, they are much more full and like a nice supportive bra.  I have not had any nausea, though a couple times I have felt a bit blah.  But everything I read says that kicks in between weeks six and eight, so maybe its still coming, though I would like to think not.
Let me take you back a couple weeks to when I actually took the test.  The weekend before I was to start my period, my parents were in town for a visit.  Over the weekend I noticed my boobs were a bit swollen.  However, they had been doing that for the past couple cycles, so I didn’t read too much into it.  I left Monday morning for a work trip through Thursday.  I didn’t drink the first night which of course brought up a few questions.  The next two nights I had a couple with the group.  On Wednesday night, I had some wine with dinner, then joined some of the group for after dinner beers.  Well, I don’t think that was such a great idea.  I woke up Thursday feeling horrible.  Luckily my flight wasn’t until 1:00 PM.  This is when I kind of started to think, well maybe I am pregnant.  I had not spotted at all, which I had done a majority of the previous cycles, plus I really did not think I had that much to drink, but felt like I had been out all night partying.  Thursday evening I had tennis practice.  My boobs were itching (which was weird I thought) and I started cramping.  So, I figured my little monthly friend would show up in the morning.  I had been tracking cycles on Fertility Friend and it suggested I not test until Saturday.  Well after I didn’t see anything Friday morning, I thought maybe I should test, but I held off.  Well, around noon, I couldn’t hold off any more.  I took a test and waited.  The faint + showed up almost right away and just got darker as I waited.  I just started shaking, excited on the one hand, but OMG on the other.  Because one isn’t enough, I decided I would buy another when out running errands.  I wanted to time my errands before James got home (he had been traveling too, returning Friday).  Well, that apparently did not work because as I was walking out, James was walking in.  I couldn’t look at him because I knew he would be able to tell.  So I tried to avoid contact and said a quick hello and went on my way.  He was working when I got home, so I hid in the bathroom and took another test (digital this time since the ones that show a + are “hard to read”)  After about a minute wait it said PREGNANT.  YIKES.  Oh boy, I thought, here we go.  Since James’ business partner was working at the house too, I tried to go about my afternoon.  I turned on the wiifit to do some exercise. About the time I started to play, James came downstairs and sat on the couch (my back was to him).  The conversation went like this:

James:  So how are your boobs
Jessi: Still big
James: Did you take a test
Jessi: Yes
James: And
Jessi: Yes (all with my back facing him)
James: (High Five) We work

We sat on the couch and talked for a few minutes and tried to let it sink in a bit.  James had to go back upstairs to work and pretend everything was normal (remember business partner is upstairs in the office working).  The weekend was kind of surreal.  We had this great news we wanted to shout from the roof tops, but couldn’t.  We went about our weekend sharing a secretive smile here and there.  By Wednesday, we really couldn’t hold it anymore and decided we could tell a select few people.  Our parents (who were instantly thrilled) and a couple friends.  You see, we need them to be co-conspirators during our Derby Party where I will not be partaking in any Oaks Lilies (or at least the kind with Vodka in them).
So that’s where we are now.  Doctors appointment in 2 1/2 weeks (they only do the first prenatal on Mon/Tues, and due to my travel schedule, that was the first Monday I would be in town).  I will be almost 9 weeks then, so hopefully we’ll get a heartbeat or at least a picture of the little bean.
Still holding a secret but wanting to shout it from the roof tops....soon, soon....until then, I am hoping to bask in the glow (and maintain the no nausea front!)

Updated to add:
Little lentil, you’re causing your momma some problems.  I had to stop 20 minutes into my run/walk to pee...seriously, right now you’re tiny, how are you having this amount of impact on my bladder?!?!?!?

Yummy Pizza

A friend of mine was talking about home made pizzas about 4 months ago (yes, I know, I've been meaning to write this for awhile now and even had to check the archives to see if I had posted this before.  I couldn't find it, but that doesn't mean its not there...so if this is a repeat...sorry).  Anyway, she told me she bought fresh dough at Publix and then created their own toppings.  So, being the pizza lover I am, I decided to try it.  And I was pleasantly surprised!!  YUM!  We've done it several times since  then, including during my parents visit (what I didn't tell you about that???).  It depends on our mood, but it usually includes mushrooms, onions and some other protein.  Now, I read PW and I know she makes her own crust and I hear (read) that it is easy to do....but this crust is really good.  And to justify, I do make homemade sauce....so that helps, right!  Just another yummy easy dinner to make!  So if you have a Publix nearby, look in the bakery section, and grab a ball of dough....I'm sure you'll make a yummy pizza, too!

(we made this for dinner last night - which is what triggered me remembering to post this.  Toppings were spicy chicken sausage, sauteed onions and mushrooms...very tasty.  Just had a slice for lunch!)
