Craving

Chick-Fil-A....but will have to settle for a pulled together mac n' cheese....

Day 2 of workers in the house and hubby being gone at lunch...

SUCKS...

Tuesday, May 26

They really are not smart....

....the sign by the pool says:

POOL CLOSED
SCEDULED TO OPEN
MAY 30

(No, that is not a typo on my part)

Pool Situation

So, to elaborate on the pool situation mentioned in my previous post.....

Our neighborhood pool is saline, not chlorine. Well, when they built the pool they did not think of this and sealed the concrete incorrectly...so over the last couple years, the concrete has cracked and started flaking off. It would need repaired to make the pool safe to use. This was brought to the HOA management company's attention many months ago. However, it wasn't until 2 weeks ago that they (mgmt co) thought it was prudent to get estimates and start work. So.....they met with the contractors last Monday. On Tuesday they drained the pool and began work. We got an email that said the pool MIGHT open on Memorial Day, as the work was expected to be completed on Thurs/Fri and then they could start filling the pool.....um, they worked all weekend and are STILL working on the concrete. We are scheduled for an opening on May 30, but I am not so sure....Of course the cost of this band aid (yes the current repairs do not fix the problem, they'll have to do that later in the year) is much higher than expected...and as you can imagine, the homeowners will likely get assessed to pay for this band-aid and then again later for the actual repair....SERIOUSLY PEOPLE....ARE YOU KIDDING ME....The management company SUCKS (and I don't like that word)....

Here's hoping I get to lounge by a pool this weekend, I need to work on my tan before the Bahamas.... until then, maybe the rain isn't so bad.

The ONLY good thing about all this....the weather was pretty nasty, so it didn't matter that I couldn't lounge by the pool....

Thanks for letting me vent...now back to work!

Back to the Grind

Well, its back to work for me...it was definitely difficult to get up this morning. But, I have had my coffee and am making my way through emails. It was nice to have a week off, but in reality, I got bored. There is only so many errands you can run, especially when you are not getting paid. The weather wasn't that great and our pool was not open (it still isn't and that's a whole other story). So its back to the grind for me...nothing exciting to report from the week and my skin isn't any darker (which I guess is probably a good thing) Only 3 weeks of work though, then I head off on the Girls Trip!! (Mom, Emily, MIL and me for a week in the Bahamas to celebrate Big Birthday Year - mom and me)

Hope you had a wonderful Memorial Day! (Maybe the weather was nice and your pool was open so you got to enjoy the holiday weekend)

AI

I have not actually watched the finale, but I just saw the "Idol Upset" piece on the Today Show. And I don't like it called that....Yes, Adam was clearly a front runner from the beginning. However, Kris BROUGHT IT later in the season. They are 2 very different artists and appeal to a different crowd. I think they will both be somewhat successful (not sure I would call Adam 'Iconic' as Paula did), but don't lessen Kris' win....he did deserve it.

Happy Anniversary

photo by Angela Anderson - please visit her blog, she is AMAZING

Two years ago today, I married my forever love.....Oh what a day. There is nothing I would have changed from our wedding day. Everything was wonderful!! The weather was great (wedding was outdoors), food amazing, band was SO entertaining, and our closest friends and family were there to share with us. It was absolutely perfect!!! (go here to see more pictures from last year's post)

We're going here to celebrate tonight. I have a couple errands to run first...unsure what to get hubby that has it all :)

Here's to many, many, many more years of making memories and looking back at the most beautiful day of our lives!

Calling it a Day

So, I'm calling it a day! Gonna sign off my work computer, not to sign on again until the 26th. I have to take a mandatory furlough....so, while I will be relaxing and doing a bunch of nothing, I won't be getting paid...but on the bright side I still have a job and it will be nice to sleep in, hang out with friends and maybe even sit by the pool.

Off to take a nap and grab a beer!

Have a great weekend! I'll be checking in and hopefully I will get some good posts next week while i have the time!!

Funk

Ever have one of those does where you can't pinpoint it, but you could bust into tears at any minute...yep...having one...Not sure what it is. It shouldn't be PMS (I know, TMI), guess I'm just tired.

On a bright note, tomorrow is my last day of work until after Memorial Day...fun!

En Vogue

So, I'm sitting here working on my savins spreadsheet and doing a status report watching The View (yes, a perk of working from home). And En Vogue just performed....I think I was transported back about 15 years to Junior High School. Wow....I so remember those old songs and all the jr high dances...swaying to the beat, because that was how you slow danced then....the curly hair (how long did I spend with curlers in my straight hair trying to make it curly??) Does that take any of you back?!?!

just wanted to share my flashback with you all....

Winners!!

I just wanted to share that R&I are winners!!! We have won our first T2 tennis matches!! Yea, go us!! (we might be playing the lowest level, but really, we are still beginners!!!) Maybe one of these days I'll get an action shot on here for you all to see.

On another front, I have been back to the gym this week. I took last week off with all the party prep. We're still eating leftover party food (and maybe some of that icing I was craving last week), so not the best. But, at least I'm getting workouts in!!

Welcome to the Derby Party

Welcome! This is the view as you walk in the front door! We hope you have a great time!

The dining room table set up with all the food. From here you can see the hot browns (tasty!!), pimento cheese (from scratch, and wonderful if I do say so myself), shrimp salad from Costco, ham, rolls, cheese and pasta salad to the left. The center piece is an urn my MIL gifted to us after our wedding. The roses were from Costco and looked amazing!
More food from the other side of the table. Back right corner is the benedictine dip with veggies and in the front you see the tenderloin that hubby cooked on the rotisserie on our grill. Served with Henry Bain sauce, also made by Hubby!

View into the dining room from the entry way. Look at all that yummy food!

Your hosts for the evening!

Viewing area. Maybe you see yourself somewhere in this picture??? This is pre race as everyone was prepping for the betting. We posted facts on all 19 horses for you to review....Hope you make some good picks! (Hind sight really is 20-20, not sure anyone had the winner!!)
View into the kitchen area. The bar was set up over by the window. We had mint juleps, oaks lilies, beer, coke, diet coke, and other mixers for your enjoyment. Not to worry, plenty of water is available, too.

Co-hosts for the evening as it was somewhat sponsored by the business. (behind them is the dessert bar which I forgot to take a picture of. On it there was a red rose bouquet in a julep cup - given to one of the best hat winners - and multiple derby pies. I made 5, though only 3 were touched. Last year 2 went too quickly.)

(I bought the hat without the flower and added it later...needed some color in the outfit!)

Hope you had a great time at the party! We did!!! Great food and company!!! Looking forward to next year and the 3rd annual!!!
