Food help
I need some new options for JW to eat. We have done sweet potato, squash, peas, green beans, apples, bananas, pears, mango, avocado, and I just started plums. Bananas blocked him up, so we'll reintroduce them later. He loves avocado (and I love that they are so easy - I'm making most of the food) but they give him major gas (or at least that's what I think is messing with or sleep this week. He devours a teething biscuit and has ha ritz crackers. I tried Cheerios and that ended with my finger in his mouth. He isn't taking much off a spoon lately, but will work on a teething biscuit. So I'm thinking maybe some other finger foods? But he's not crawling yet, so I'm not sure about that either. So I ask all you other Mommys out there. What do we do to mix it up/make it more interesting?

SYT loved spinach and pears blended together. I would cook down the pears a bit (after they were peeled) and cook down the baby spinach and then blend them in the food processor. They were (and still are) one of his favorites. Peaches are soft enough that you could give him teeny tiny bite sized ones to see what he can do with it. Spence eats whole ones now. He loves them but they stain horribly so be very mindful of that!! Also, mandarin oranges are pretty easy for them at that age. I steamed carrots and blended them down as well. Acorn squash and butternut squash (with cinnamon- can give after 7 months) are a favorite around here too (though sweet potato is still his favorite orange food). Mashed potatoes work too. I also did a lot of apple/blueberry, apple/raspberry type of mixes. He didn't really love those (at the time, he really didn't like anything apple, unless mixed with sweet potato!)
Hope this helps some!!
Avacado gives Preston gas too. Do you give him puffs? They dissolve quickly so you don't end up with a finger in the mouth situation. ha! Anabel Karmel has some good books out with some great recipes in them. Also search wholesomebabyfood.com for some ideas.
Daisy loved the puffs too--still does. Also, Gerber makes (and I think you can get them in Target, Walmart, etc. brands) little cheese curls and veggie curls that are like the puffs that dissolve in their mouths.
Puffs are fun to work on eating with fingers (loved Targets brand, I think it is called Happy Baby or something?). Ripe melons are great to pick up and squish...
I think you are ready to start mixing things up...we did a lot of zucchini and spinach alone and mixed with apple/pearsauce. I also loved adding spices and herbs to it and C loved it more. Mint with peas, oregano with squash, lime with fruit. Now she won't eat anything if it doesn't have seasoning!
because we didn't have puffs or great teething biscuits in Austria, I made banana or zucchini bread biscotti (cut and rebaked till crunchy).
I also think wholesomebabyfood.com is the best! weelicious.com has some good ideas too.
