I know I need to wash everything for baby. My question and help request is in the details....
I bought Dreft for this go round - one of my friends swears by it - but do you all use anything else??
Also what needs to be washed? Clothes - yes, blankets and sheets - I'm thinking yes. What about the mattress cover before using? The snuggler car seat thingy?
How do you wash it all? Cold water, warm water, things 1 at a time???
Dryer??
Thanks!

Hi Jessi! We use Tide Free and Clear detergent and Free Bounce for Caroline. She has super sensitive skin and thats worked great for us (and the Tide is MUCH cheaper than Dreft). I wash all her things together in a regular cycle and on a low setting in the dryer. Hope that helps :)
Hey Jess,
I use ALL free and clear. Gets everything clean and it's much cheaper than any of the baby washes. I normally use Tide for us, but SYT gets the occasional rash, so I'm still sticking to the free and clear. I washed the blankets, clothes- not the car seat cover, I did do the mattress pad. I tend to wash on cold and the hand dry a lot of his clothes (or on delicate) b/c they shrink a LOT and he is a big guy. Plus, a lot of the cheaper clothes fade a ton in the dryer, so I don't dry them too much (carters, esp for some reason). If I'm pressed for time, I'll throw them in on the delicate cycle or the fluff cycle to make them softer!
We used Dreft with Zach but then realized that any of the "free and clear" detergent is much cheaper and works just as good. The Dreft smells really good though! If you have Costco there we use the environmentally friendly detergent that's free of dyes, etc. I can't remember the name, but it's the most economical.
I did wash the mattress cover (you got a waterproof one, right?) I did not wash the car seat stuff. Yes, we did wash the blankets and sheets. I'd be careful about washing too many clothes before he/she gets here because they grow so fast. I washed all of Zach's new stuff and didn't use hardly half of it because he grew out of it so fast. Had I kept it with the tags on I could have returned it. So with Mallory I was much smarter and was able to take some of her newborn and 0-3 month stuff back to the store and either exchange for larger sizes or get some $ back.
Good luck - I can't wait to hear what the sex is and you'll be an awesome mommy!!
I use Dreft and continue to do so, even though my kids are 3 and 5 now. My 3-year-old has eczema, so I try to use a detergent that is not harsh on his skin. I did wash just about everything in it, even before they were born, in preparation for their arrival. Lights in warm water, darks in cold. Then I got to a point where I threw all colors in together and washed them in cold. Results are great and takes less time. :)
I would have switched to the dye-free stuff, but I love the smell of Dreft. I wash everything...even some toys (always felt bad if I didn't). I think I always did warm and no dryer sheets. Mine is over one...I think that I am going to keep going with Dreft until I run out.
