Apples - Love'em and Hate'em

I apparently have a love hate relationship with apples.  I love to eat a good crispy, slightly sweet apple, especially in the Fall.  But what I don't love is the impact they have on my digestion.  They either have a mild impact - heartburn - or a stronger impact - let's just say its "move your feet or fill your seat."

The reaction is mild or non existent if eating them cooked.  Guess that means I'll be baking with apples this Fall...I see an apple crisp in my future.  Any great recipe recommendations??

Jessi- apple cider does the same, same, same thing to me. Raw apples are fine, but, cider??? I have to be within 500 ft of a bathroom!

Do you read Annie's Eats? She's got an amazing blog and I bet she's done apple crisp. If not, I've never had anything bad from Ina Garten!

For my apple crisp, I normally cut up 4-5 good baking apples (gala is what I like best) and put them in a medium sized round baking dish. Sprinkle 1/2c. sugar (I use Splenda) on top, along with apple pie spice (sorry - I don't measure this, but coat it pretty well).

The topping–
-1c. brown sugar (can use Splenda again here)
-1c. whole wheat flour
-1 stick of butter (melted)
-1/2 cup of oats (if using regular flour, then you'll need closer to a cup)

Mix well and sprinkle on top of apples. Bake at 350 for about 45 minutes until the apples are done and the top is golden brown.
