Six Weeks

Originally written April 29

Yesterday I crossed the six week mark.  Fortunately I have had very few pregnancy symptoms.  The only noticeable one (and only to those who know, I hope) is my boobs.  Holy Boobs....They do not hurt, however, they are much more full and like a nice supportive bra.  I have not had any nausea, though a couple times I have felt a bit blah.  But everything I read says that kicks in between weeks six and eight, so maybe its still coming, though I would like to think not.
Let me take you back a couple weeks to when I actually took the test.  The weekend before I was to start my period, my parents were in town for a visit.  Over the weekend I noticed my boobs were a bit swollen.  However, they had been doing that for the past couple cycles, so I didn’t read too much into it.  I left Monday morning for a work trip through Thursday.  I didn’t drink the first night which of course brought up a few questions.  The next two nights I had a couple with the group.  On Wednesday night, I had some wine with dinner, then joined some of the group for after dinner beers.  Well, I don’t think that was such a great idea.  I woke up Thursday feeling horrible.  Luckily my flight wasn’t until 1:00 PM.  This is when I kind of started to think, well maybe I am pregnant.  I had not spotted at all, which I had done a majority of the previous cycles, plus I really did not think I had that much to drink, but felt like I had been out all night partying.  Thursday evening I had tennis practice.  My boobs were itching (which was weird I thought) and I started cramping.  So, I figured my little monthly friend would show up in the morning.  I had been tracking cycles on Fertility Friend and it suggested I not test until Saturday.  Well after I didn’t see anything Friday morning, I thought maybe I should test, but I held off.  Well, around noon, I couldn’t hold off any more.  I took a test and waited.  The faint + showed up almost right away and just got darker as I waited.  I just started shaking, excited on the one hand, but OMG on the other.  Because one isn’t enough, I decided I would buy another when out running errands.  I wanted to time my errands before James got home (he had been traveling too, returning Friday).  Well, that apparently did not work because as I was walking out, James was walking in.  I couldn’t look at him because I knew he would be able to tell.  So I tried to avoid contact and said a quick hello and went on my way.  He was working when I got home, so I hid in the bathroom and took another test (digital this time since the ones that show a + are “hard to read”)  After about a minute wait it said PREGNANT.  YIKES.  Oh boy, I thought, here we go.  Since James’ business partner was working at the house too, I tried to go about my afternoon.  I turned on the wiifit to do some exercise. About the time I started to play, James came downstairs and sat on the couch (my back was to him).  The conversation went like this:

James:  So how are your boobs
Jessi: Still big
James: Did you take a test
Jessi: Yes
James: And
Jessi: Yes (all with my back facing him)
James: (High Five) We work

We sat on the couch and talked for a few minutes and tried to let it sink in a bit.  James had to go back upstairs to work and pretend everything was normal (remember business partner is upstairs in the office working).  The weekend was kind of surreal.  We had this great news we wanted to shout from the roof tops, but couldn’t.  We went about our weekend sharing a secretive smile here and there.  By Wednesday, we really couldn’t hold it anymore and decided we could tell a select few people.  Our parents (who were instantly thrilled) and a couple friends.  You see, we need them to be co-conspirators during our Derby Party where I will not be partaking in any Oaks Lilies (or at least the kind with Vodka in them).
So that’s where we are now.  Doctors appointment in 2 1/2 weeks (they only do the first prenatal on Mon/Tues, and due to my travel schedule, that was the first Monday I would be in town).  I will be almost 9 weeks then, so hopefully we’ll get a heartbeat or at least a picture of the little bean.
Still holding a secret but wanting to shout it from the roof tops....soon, soon....until then, I am hoping to bask in the glow (and maintain the no nausea front!)

Updated to add:
Little lentil, you’re causing your momma some problems.  I had to stop 20 minutes into my run/walk to pee...seriously, right now you’re tiny, how are you having this amount of impact on my bladder?!?!?!?
