New Orleans

While our friends were visiting from Brussels, we decided to take a road trip to New Orleans. We left on Tuesday at lunch and returned on Thursday around dinner time. James got pulled over in downtown ATL and somehow got out of the ticket. We arrived in New Orleans at our B&B around 7:30PM. After checking in, we went to grab a bite to eat and ended up at Pat O'Brien's. The food wasn't that great, but we did enjoy the Hurricanes. Making sure we got all of the standard NO fare in on our trip, we went to Cafe du Monde after dinner for coffee and beignets. Wednesday we walked around the city and then took a tour of the Garden District, including the cemetary. We had dinner at Nola (one of Emeril's restaurants). I was impressed with my meal, the buttermilk fried chicken and mashed sweet potatoes...YUM!! (Before dinner we were accosted/tricked by a drunk native and ended up having to buy him a drink.....) Thursday morning (H's Bday) we had brunch at the Court of Two Sisters. Great brunch and live music. Afterwards we walked around the park and headed home. All in all it was a good trip. I don't think I have to go back anytime soon. No disrespect to the residents, there are just a bunch of other cities I would like to see before repeating my visit. And if I do make it back, Bourbon St will NOT be on my list. (I tried to put the pictures in the order of the trip, but blogger is not that friendly and it was too much work)

cemetary in Garden District all of us in Jackson Square

James and me at Court of Two Sisters (notice the musician in the background)

more cemetary shots - it was really cool to walk around in the cemetary and see all the names

cemetary - there a couple non profit groups working to restore the cemetary

house in the Garden District (forget who it belonged to)- there were definitely some beautiful homes

Bourbon St (yuck)

another home in the Garden District - notice the blue ceiling on the porch, they were painted that way to keep the wasps from nesting
